Sanatçı Manifestosu

Genco Gülan resim, heykel, çizim, yeni medya ve performans gibi
kavramsal çağdaş sanat yapıtlarının tümünü ‘fikir sanatı’ olarak
tarif eden bir sanatçı ve teorisyendir. 1969 yılında İstanbul’da
doğdu. İlk ödülünü 1993’te BP’den alan Gülan, 2000 yılında New
School bursu, 2005 EMAF ödülünü alan ekipte yer aldı, 2011
Sovereign Avrupa Sanat ödülüne finalist seçildi ve 2015 Ege Art
ödüllerine layık görüldü. Yapıtları Centre Pompidou, ZKM, Pera,
MAM Rio de Janeiro ve La Triennale Milano gibi önemli müzelerde
sergilendi. Gülan Steirishes Herbst, Ars Electronica, Mediaterra, prog-me, Accente, Balkan
Art, Gezici Tahran ve Bonn Bienali gibi festivallere katılmıştır. Performansları ve katıldığı
projeler İKSV Tiyatro, Xchange PAP Tel Aviv, Wunderbar New Castle, Fringe New York,
Mov- ing Silence Atina ve Accente Duisbug gibi önemli festivallerde sergilenmiştir. Sanatçı
Yale, SVA, Bilgi, New York Institute of Technology, Incheon ve Köln Üniversitelerinde
konferanslar vermiştir. Yapıtları Rhizome.org at the New Museum, İstanbul Modern,
Museum Oswald, Davis Museum, El- giz, Baksı, Selanik Devlet Çağdaş Sanat Müzesi ve
Imago Mundi Luciano Benetton daimi kolek- siyonlarına girmiştir. Eserleri City University,
U.C. Santa Barbara ve Teksas Rice Üniversitelerinde derslerde okutulmuştur. Sanatçı Pınar,
Turgut Pura, Odea Bank ve Batı Anadolu sanat yarışmaları jürilerinde görev yapmıştır.
Web Bienali’nin kurucusu olan Genco Gülan, Balkan Bienali’nin danışma kurulunda, ISEA
Singapur Uluslararası program komitesinde yer almıştır. Sanatçı Mimar Sinan ve Boğaziçi
Üniversite’lerinde ders vermiştir. Halen İstanbul ve İzmir’de yaşamakta ve çalışmaktadır.

Genco Gulan is a multiple media contemporary conceptual artist, who defines his practices
in painting, sculpture, performance, video and new media as ‘idea art’. Gu- lan was born
in Istanbul in 1969. He got his first prize from BP in 1993, got New School scholarship in
2000, took part in the team that won EMAF 2005, selected as a finalist for Sovereign
European Art 2011 and awarded Master Artist at Ege Art in 2015. His works are presented
in museums such as; Centre Pompidou Paris, Pera, ZKM, MAM Rio de Janeiro, La Triennale
di Milano, Ankara Resim Heykel Museum and Cer Modern. He participated to festivals such
as; Steirishes Herbst, Ars Electronica, Mediaterra, prog-me, Balkan Art Novi Sad, Roaming
Tahran and Bonn Biennal. His performances are presented at Istanbul Theatre, PAP Tel
Aviv, Wunderbar New Cas- tle, Fringe New York, Moving Silence Athens and Accente
Festival Duisbug. He is in collections such as Rhizome.org at the New Museum, Istanbul
Modern, Elgiz, Baksı, Museum Oswald, Davis Museum, State Museum of Contemporary
Art, Thessaloniki and Imago Mundi Luciano Benetton. His works listed in required reading
lists at; City University, Rice University and U.C. Santa Barbara. Gulan gave conferences at
Yale, School of Visual Arts, Köln, Bilgi, NYIT and Incheon University. Genco Gulan was in
the Advisory Board of Balkan Biennial Cosmopolis and in the International Program- ming
Committee of ISEA Singapore. He is the founder of the istanbumuseum.org and the Web
Biennial. He teached at Mimar Sinan Academy and Bogazici University, Istanbul. He lives
and works in Izmir and Istanbul.
